iCloud Backup still taking up space under Photos even though I deleted all photos

Hi, I got a notification that my iCloud is getting full. Usually this means it's time to offload my photos onto my computer. So I did that. And I deleted my "recently deleted" photo folder as well. And it still says photos is taking up > 1Gb.

I tried everything here

https://www.makeuseof.com/iphone-photos-space-after-deleting-fixes/

Except

  1. The changing date/time fix caused me to not be able to open my recently deleted folder.
  2. I already don't use photo sync. I only use backup.
  3. Since I have no photos to optimize I didn't do that.
  4. I didn't do a complete factory reset.

Looks like it just takes time for the photo backup to forget old photos completely. Without doing anything other than the automatic nightly backup it's now down to 226 Mb and my total backup is ~1Gb.

Thanks.

Hello Waldo120,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

If you're seeing an error that your iCloud is almost full, the steps in here can help with how to manage your storage and remove things to free up space: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

If the steps in there don't seem to free up space on iCloud, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support to look in to that further and see what's going on.

You can reach out to them here: Get Support

Take care!
