Trash thumb drive 13.3.1

When a usb thumb drive is plugged into the mac, is it expected behavior to lose the thumb drive from Disc Utility if the drive is moved to the trash from the desktop?

I have noted that mounting and unmounting from DU keeps the thumb drive in the list of devices, but trashing it for the desktop removes the thumb drive from the listed devices and needs to be unplugged and replugged to get it working again.

Thanks

Eject in the Finder (same as dragging a disk to the Trash) is more about preparing the disk to be manually disconnected (unplugged). While Unmounting the disk in Disk Utility is intended to keep the device listed because once it's unmounted you can perform a variety of operations on the disk then remount the drive.
