DVD drive with Mac M1

I can verify that a drive purposely designed to work with macOS Monterey worked on my M1 mini, and still works on my M2 mini pro, as well as my M1 MBP M1 Pro — whether running Monterey 12.6.5, or Ventura 13.3.1 (a).

You drive might have benefited from a firmware update if the vendor continued to support it. Now, you probably are looking at a new DVD drive for M1 compatibility, or resign to using the current drive on Intel only.

If you open System Information from the Apple menu while holding the option key, is the drive in the USB list?

You could be correct. It should at least show up in System Information…

I suppose the only way to be sure is if you have access to another Apple silicon Mac to test it on.

I only have a SuperDrive which works on my M1 MacBook Air. Which DVD drive do you have?

It won't show in the Finder or Disk Utility without a disk but it should show up in the USB list if recognized. That's assuming it's plugged into a USB port. Are you using a hub?

Even my SuperDrive works which was designed like a hundred years ago. My guess is, without Ventura in mind. 😎
