How to import photos from an SD card onto my MacBook Air 2 without using iPhoto?

How do I import photos from an SD card onto my MacBook Air 2 without using iPhoto.? I began using iPhoto when I only had an iPad, and then also put them on the hard drive of my Windows laptop, to use DXO.

It seems with my new MacBook Air 2 that I can’t do this and can only use iPhotos. I’ve never used a Mac before and am very much out of my depth, so much so I really regret buying it.

Thank you for reading this, and I hope someone can help please

Thank you so much for the advice….it worked!!!

To be honest, I think being at the older end of the spectrum has made me more nervous about trying new things. Before I posted and got your reply I was seriously thinking of passing the MacBook on to my son, who has always used them! But certainly for now, he won’t get a look in!
