intermittent "Z" dysfunction

My "Z" key intermittently fails to function. It is not mechanical. It is across programs (once in NYT crossword, another in a Google search). And when it fails to show a "z" the alt-z function still works. Running MacOS 12.6.5 Monterey on a macbook air M2. Thoughts?

The modifier key may have gotten stuck.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Input Sources -> Show input menu in menubar.

Open Keyboard viewer from menubar.

It will show you when modifier keys are pressing. If you don't press them then, then you may have a mechanical fault. If you are pressing them

Apple menu -> System Preferneces -> Keyboard -> Use F1, F2 etc... may be checked or unchecked, and it waiting for your additional modifier key
