Samsung TV 4K UHD (A7000U) Apple TV Problem

Hi everyone

I’m in a bit of a pickle here. I have a Samsung UHD 4K 55” inch TV (AU700) 2021 model and I’ve recently bought myself the latest Apple TV 4K Wi-Fi model.

The problem: My tv supports native HDR10+ and 4K, however whenever I play content it loses its connection and the tv tells me check HDMI connection.

Before it does the whole blue screen of death and disappointment. It first glitches black and then a little annoying circle appears. It than loses its connection and I have to switch off the tv and on again. It specifically does this with YouTube most of the time but Disney plus and and Netflix is in it too.

Any solutions that I might be able to use to fix it from doing this all the time ?

  • Verify that the HDMI port on the TV that connects to the Apple TV box, is correctly configured. Samsung TV: Settings﹥General﹥External Device Manager﹥Input Signal Plus﹥… I think it should enable more HDMI bandwidth for (select) HDMI ports on supported TVs (HDMI 2.1). Not sure if your model has that.
  • Verify that your HDMI cable is rated for 18 Gbps or better.
  • Try setting your Apple TV to 4K HDR, 50/60 Hz, 4:2:0 chroma. Else try resetting video settings for the best guess from the Apple TV box. Note that HDR10+ is only available through select services that offer HDR10+ streams. Other streams will play in regular HDR10 or SDR.
  • Try if Match Content off (Dynamic Range off and Frame Rate off) gives better results with your TV and settings.
