Why can't I send text messages to an android phone?

Why is it since I downloaded the 17 version whenever I text an android phone it says message not delivered

I found that my friend is getting the messages on his Android phone but why doesn't it show "delivered" on my phone so that I know he got it. Usually it will read "delivered" and then "read" when they have read the message.

When you send SMS (Green Bubble) messages then you do not get the “Delivered” or “Read” notifications.
When you send iMessages (Blue Bubble) then you get the “Delivered” notification and “Read” notifications only if the receiver of the iMessages allows it.

How to text from an ipad to an android phone
Text messages going to a non - iPhone are sent through SMS (green bubble). SMS messaging is provided and managed by your carrier. Please contact your carrier to ensure that SMS messaging is setup properly on your account.

Ensure that your iPad and your iPhone are signed on to the same Apple ID. Ensure that iMessage and FaceTime are signed on to the same Apple ID.
On your iPad, open Settings ➡️ Messages ➡️ Send & Receive: Here, you should see the phone number that is associated with your iPhone and iPad. Ensure that only the Phone number is checked and uncheck any email addresses that may be checked.
