Split keyboard solutions for iPad Pro 4th Gen

Any ideas? Setting shows up in search, but not settings.

Your fourth generation iPad Pro doesn’t support Split Keyboard. The settings search shows where the setting would be if supported by your iPad.

Clearly, displaying a search result that doesn’t apply to your iPad model isn’t helpful - and is presumed to be a bug. You’ll likely encounter others. You may also find some search results that return an incorrect path to an option that has been moved/relocated in the transition from iOS/iPadOS15 to 16.

You may wish to submit a bug report via Apple’s Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

I’ve just discovered this lack of split keyboard on my new iPad Pro 11. I am gutted and finding it so difficult to type now because I can’t reach the centre keys with my thumbs whilst holding the iPad. This is a retrograde step. With all the effort Apple make to bring Accessibility to the iPad, why on earth would they remove this feature. I’m contemplating sending my iPad back because it’s ergonomically unviable for me now.
Aside from writing a feedback comment, do you think there is anyway we could get this reinstated?😢

As detailed within the iPad User Guide, Split Keyboard is supported by these models of iPad:

  • iPad mini (5th generation and later)
  • iPad (5th generation to 9th generation)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch

I feel exactly the same. The iPads that need the split keyboard are the larger ones. I just bought a new iPad Pro 11 and my thumbs can’t reach the middle of the keyboard. I have been trying for 3 days now but it is not working for me. I now have serious thumb pain.

The sceptic in me thinks they want you to buy an expensive Magic Keyboard. But that just means that my iPad becomes my laptop and I have one of those.

Have you filed a complaint? I think that if enough of us do so then they may bring it back perhaps?
