Error code 8072 definition and solution

I am trying to create a folder on my desktop. I get error code -8072 telling me the operation cannot be completed. What does this mean and how do I fix this issue?

Hi FS109,

Re: Error code 8072 definition and solution

Am no expert in this area, yet your question surely deserves a reply.

Seems error code 8072 may relate to some kind of a permissions error.

Eg: Wondering if you are using Time Machine, or a Microsoft app, and whether turning it off while creating that particular folder may help:

Another option is to try restarting your Mac, and see if you can now create the folder on the desktop ok.

Just found this discussion thread on this same error code, with some wise advice:

error code -8072 - Apple Community

Else:

Find an iTunes or Finder error code - Apple Support

does not list your error code:

Says:

"If you don’t see your error code and still need help, contact Apple Support"

All the best :-)
