My iPhone iMessages app has been crashing and appearing with a blank screen when opening it when after hardware restarting my iPhone it would work again but when I would click a button it would freeze. This would happen with me in the Phone app where I would not send and receive phone calls and messages.

I started having the same problem (freeze of Messages app and impossible to get into Messages settings) on my iPhone XR for a few days. Hard reset hasn't really helped so far :-( Any other idea?

My phone is doing the same thing. When I hard reset it it takes about 30 minutes and it will freeze up again.
Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

my phone is doing the same thing. The reset didn’t help. This phone is less than 1 year old, extremely frustrated.
