Logic Pro X 10.7.8 crashes on launch (x86, 12.6.6)

I installed 10.7.8 today and now Logic Pro X crashes on launch. I tried removing the prefs and that didn't make a difference. I tried rebooting and that didn't help.

I'm dead in the water, I have a ton of stuff installed (plugins and such) so wiping the machine is not practical.

I'm sorry to tell you, the only "fix" is to revert to a version that works for you. This can be done frome a backup. Either a (Time Machine) backup, a zipped file of an older version or a version from a friend / colleague. We have to spread the following to the world:

  1. Disable automatic updates.
  2. Always create a backup of your computer (with built-in Time Machine / 3rd party apps, it's your choice) or at least create a backup of Logic before updating.
  3. Remember that you can have several different Logic versions in your Application folder as long as the old versions are renamed (e.g. Logic 10-5-1 and so on, I personally avoid dots or other special characters) and the name of the latest version one is NOT edited.
  4. Read the official Apple recommendation on how to : Back up Logic Pro - Apple Support that is given in any official Logic release note
  5. Send a feedback to apple: Feedback - Logic Pro - Apple

Thanks, but NO forget it. I will switch to studio one and to a PC. After 22 Years of use Emagic/Apple Logic, I see that Apple change to many things that was good. And there is no good I/O solution. To print it, in a Hybrid Studio is a nightmare.

So many time my work stopped for a stupid bugy update. Plugins fall out and how much time I had to bought it a plugin again. Only Antares was 4-5 times in that 22 Years.

AND FLEXTIME IS A MESS!!! Only glitches and artefacts and apple will never never fix that.

Studio one comes with Melodyne and perfect I/O integration and i haven’t to buy a fancy mac..

Sorry apple, but my love ends here.

Hi, I had the same issue after 10.7.8 was automatically installed on my MAC with OSX 12.6.6. It would crash when opened and I sent the crash report to apple. I recovered a 10.7.7 from my time machine and the crash immediately stopped. I did not try to reinstall 10.7.8 and probably a good decision given that other are experiencing the same exact crash as I experienced. So far no update from apple to address this issue.

Same here!

I Sent crash reports, tried different remedies (removed all plugins, removed preference files, rebooted multiple times, opened files that used to work)... no luck. I then contacted apple, and have been waiting for more than a week for a response. Am really not impressed!! Clearly apple did not test this update to 10.7.8 sufficiently. I am on Ventura 13.4 (Intel)

I now have an unusable installation of Logic Pro which I cannot use and am now unable to do any work as a result.

Apple is doing nothing to fix this.

I'm in the same boat (still). Logic is completely unusable. Luckily I wasn't too deep into any new project and I've been able to recreate the ones I was working on in Ableton, but if I need to update any of the older projects, I am stuck (maybe forever).

If I ever get it working again, I will go back to my old strategy of freezing a machine once everything is working well and never updating until I get a new machine, I'm so sick of Apple destroying my ability to make music arbitrarily. This is why I switched from Windows in the first place.

While it's not at all appreciated that Apple have screwed up like this I found a work round which might help.

I used Time Machine to restore the original version then went into Settings- General - Startup Action and selected Do Nothing.

When I updated to the new version, which has some useful stuff in it (not the snake-oil claims but useful) I can open all my old projects without any problem.

Hope this helps.

Shame on you Apple. Get this sorted, you've had months.
