How do I print my comments in a pdf in preview ?

So I'm attempting to print comments in the margin for pages that have comments. I've set this up as show below but only the icon but not the full comment in the margin. On 12.6.5. Monterey. Can anyone successfully print pdfs with comments ?

I have tried this and it worked for me. I am running Ventura, but I'd expect it to work the same way in Monterey.

I did not print to paper, just clicked PDF->Open in Preview, and it looks like the image below.

Adobe calls them comments and preview calls them notes. These comments were created from adobe acrobat DC. Preview can see the comments/notes but it can't print them.

Additionally:

  • I can view the comments/notes in preview
  • But even if I print and show notes through the printer panel. IT does not show the notes
  • but in the print preview I do see the highlighted text.

Yes thanks apple going to Ventura isn't always the solution for issues.

Notes/Comments

  • can
    • be seen in preview in the side panel
  • can't
    • be seen when you go to print but can see the highlight text, even if you select show notes.

Unsure what text edit has to do with it.. but it's 8 1/2 by 11 standard page size.

No It was more of a comment on your comment being endorsed by apple not specifically by you.

I prefer the preview way of it showing and printing notes but the acrobat pdf way of highlight and adding a note.

Problem is with acrobat

  • able to print with notes/comments
  • notes are on a separate page.
  • it's a disconnect from the actual notes/comments.

Problem with Preview

  • able to view acrobat created notes/comments but not print them.
  • but preview created notes/comments are supported in the desired margin print out

Notes that you annotate onto a PDF from Preview's markup are just that — Notes. You see this enabler in the Preview print panel.

Comments are something that you add in a word processing document, usually associated with an author name, and one must enable these comments in the PDF export panel of that word processing document, where they will appear in that exported PDF as a separate column on the PDF. Apple's Pages (e.g. 13.1) has that provision in its export to PDF panel.

With macOS 12.6.7, and depending on the choice of Notes or Comments above, I have no issue producing these on printed output.
