iPod Touch 4th Gen Recovery Problems

So I wanted to restore a 4th Gen iPod touch and I keep getting the same error "This iPod was previously in DFU mode, but restarted and is no longer in DFU mode. To restore this iPod from DFU mode, disconnect it and place it in DFU mode again." I had seen that someone else had this same problem ITunes says iPod isn't in DFU mode. - Apple Community, But he didn't get anything useful, so I am hoping someone has any useful information. I had been restoring it as one of my siblings used it before I got a phone, I had done that too, and I wanted it back, so they got a phone and I got this back, and so it was being restored like normal and then I don't know what happened but it led to me having this DFU mode problem, even when I put the iPod in DFU mode it didn't work. PLEASE HELP!

Same problem. Really frustrating. Using a Mac worked for the author - I don't have access to one so my iPod is bricked. Thanks Apple.

Hello Kerfuful,

We would suggest that you start by working through all these steps found at If you see an error when you update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support designed to help when you have an error:

1. Update your Mac or PC
Update your Mac. Or if you have a PC, get updates from Microsoft. If you're using iTunes, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.

2. Plug your device directly into your computer
Plug your iPhone, iPad, or iPod directly into your computer's USB port (not into an attached keyboard or USB hub). Make sure that the cable is in good condition.
Make sure that your device is unlocked. If prompted, trust your device.
If you still see an error alert, try a different Apple USB cable or switch to a different USB port on your computer.

3. Restart your computer and your device
Turn off your computer, then turn it on again. Next, restart your device.

4. Check your computer’s security software
You might need to update, change, or uninstall software that could be interfering with your computer's connection with iTunes.

5. Use a different computer
Update or restore your device on another computer that uses a different network.

There is additional help there if needed.

Cheers.
