Will iCloud Photos automatically import photos/video taken from my iPhone to my to the photo library on my iMac?

With My Photo Stream (MPS) being discontinued, how do I replicate the MPS feature which automatically imported photos taken from my various Apple devices, in particular my iPhone, to my iMac? I'm strictly interested in continued import into my iMac based library, not uploading the existing contents of my very large Photos library, to iCloud Photos. MPS was such a convenient and reliable way to ensure my iMac synced with the photos I was taking with my iPhone.

iMac 27″, macOS 12.6

The offered alternative is icloud photos which will sync all of your photos across all of your devices. Or, you can manually import your photos at any time.
