Mac Numbers how can I create a duplicate copy of an existing speadsheet and insert it as as new spreadheet in the existing working book. Essentially I have a worksheet with multiple spread sheets and I want to create a duplicate and insert it the existing workbook. This is easy to do in excel

Yes.
In Numbers you can copy an existing Table and paste that copy elsewhere in the same document or in another document.
Pasting the Table into a separate document will sever all links to Tables left on the original document.
If the copy is Pasted to another Sheet in the document from which it was copied, formulas will likely retain their connections to the cells in other tables remaining in the same document.
You can also copy a Sheet in the source document. The copy will include the Sheet itself, and all of the contents of that sheet. These man include one or several Tables, Shapes or boxes containing text or images, charts (graphs) plotting bars or lines related to the data on one or more Tables, or images placed on the Sheet.
A copied Sheet can have its contents pasted to another Sheet in the same Document/Spreadsheet or onto a Sheet in another Spreadsheet Document.

The Numbers terminology is a little different from other spreadsheet apps. Numbers has documents (spreadsheets) which have sheets (tabs) which have tables (containing grids of cells).
If you mean you want to duplicate a sheet (the way you would duplicate an Excel worksheet) then all you have to do is go to the name in the "tab" at the top, click the v to its right and choose 'Copy Sheet' from the dropdown that appears.
Then switch to the document where you want to add the sheet, go to the tab of any existing sheet there, and choose 'Paste Sheet' from the dropdown.
Note that if you want the duplicate sheet in the same document then all you need to do is choose 'Duplicate' from the menu.

Select the cells in a range within a table on a sheet, command-c, click once a cell in a destination table, and (depending on what you want) command-v, or Edit > Paste and Match Style, or Edit > Paste Formula Results.

Sometimes I hate Apple. They make stuff complicated. I have two identical spreadsheets in Numbers. Both contain the same data formats. There are NO formulas or anything like that. I've tried every trick mentioned and nothing seems to work. I clicked on the "Sheet" tab of the second Sheet. I selected "COPY" from the menu. I went to the first sheet and selected "PASTE". All Numbers did was create a third "SHEET". That's NOT what I need. I need the date from SHEET 2 copied to SHEET 1. GRRRR.
Oh, Using Numbers 14.1 Sonoma. The two different "spreadsheets" (Numbers "sheets") has two lists that are identical except for the data in each cell. Same position, same characters, etc. What I want to do is take Numbers "Sheet 2" and copy/paste the data into "Sheet 1". Then I can sort "Sheet 1" and compile the data as I want it. When I try to paste the data from "Sheet 2" into "Sheet 1", Numbers 14.1 creates a "Sheet 3". Thanks!

DATA..not DATE! Sorry 'bout that. Fat fingers! Copy/paste doesn't work. Numbers just creates a new sheet.
