hi, im running into a issue with my Macbook pro & using an external monitor, the Samsung CRG9 49" display.
When i connect my monitor to the laptop using a display port 1.4 - USB-c cable this happens, im running MAC OS Ventura 13.4.1.
When i disconnect my macbook from the display, the macbook displays correctly.

2020 can handle that 5K wide display just fine. (Its pre-2017 we worry about.)
the issue you appear to have is that the two displays are in Mirror mode. in that mode a 'compromise' resolution that appears to be reachable by each display is chosen, and is used for both.
In your case that 'compromise' resolution appears to be reachable by NEITHER display, so they both go wonky.
You don't need a different macOS. you just need to uncheck mirror displays or use the shortcut I posted above to toggle the sense of mirror displays.
In Mirror mode, note that the two displays are shown almost co-incident, with only enough difference to allow the mouse to drag one away from the other to un-Mirror.

Command-BrightnessDown to toggle the setting of
[√] Mirror displays
this may allow the two displays to be separated from each other and have independent resolutions.

It’s a 2020 model, and it did work before I upgraded.
