I live in Australia and want to buy a new MacBook Air but there is no option for a German keyboard on the website. Ordering it in Australia is much less hassle and better value than ordering it in Germany and asking family to send it over (plus the risk of damaging or losing it on it's journey around the globe).
I'd also prefer to keep using ü, ö, ä, and ß... Any ideas?

order a german keyboard in US - Apple Community...maybe if you could find an Apple Store nearest to you, or an Apple products vendor, and give 'em a call, I'm sure they have a phone number of some sort.... as I'm sure you know, Apple doesn't ship internationally, so you'd be asking your family to ship it to you from Germany to Australia... I don't know if you can be in Australia and go to the Mac Store in Germany and order and pay for a MacBook Air...I suppose it's technically possible.... ( dunno exactly how, though) . If you were to get your family to ship it to you (send it over) the cost would be pretty high, I guess, plus you'd have to insure the package. pay for shipping, customs fees and taxes, hopefully keeping the risk of damage or loss sorta low, hopefully.....
as for the special characters, no problem, you'd just have to set the keyboard input to German rather than US or UK English..... there's also some kind of keyboard stickers/top cover you can get which has the special characters on it....wow, Pituophis, you really stumped me on this one....

Regardless of where it is ordered from, if will be shipped from your local distribution center. So, after ordering it, it wouldn't be shipped from around the globe, per se.
I can of course get somebody to buy it in Germany and send it over but as mentioned above that's exactly what I want to avoid. Cost and potential for damage is too high. I will contact the sales team in Australia though and see what they can offer.

This question comes up often here. Normally the only way to get a machine with a keyboard not offered by your local online store is to travel to a country where it is sold or buy from a non-Apple source. Even in the US various keyboards are just not available.
