Apps not appearing under location services tab on new Macbook Air

I just purchased a new m2 Macbook Air two days ago and currently have it running the latest Mac OS Ventura 13.5. I have an issue where when I go into the Location Services page under the 'Privacy & Security' section of my System Settings I do not get a list of apps that are eligible to have location services turned on or off. I am currently trying to turn on location services to be able to use Google Maps within the Google Chrome browser however Chrome, or any other app I have download, does not come out under this tab to give me the option to turn on location services. I have toggled location services on and off and have restarted the computer multiple times however I can get a list of apps to appear under the tab. If anybody has a fix for this I would appreciate the help, thanks.

There has been some type of change between Ventura 13.4.1(c) to Ventura 13.5 that effects "Location Services".


That we acknowledge.


As of this writing, there is no documented and supporting evidence provided by Apple as to whether this is a "bug " or something else.


No doubt, this question may act like a " honey pot " and garner much attention.


In the interim - the functionality of Location Services seems to work as intended.


The difference at the moment is the Appearance.


At least that how it has been working on 2 M1 and 1 M2 computers I own and work on each running Ventura 13.5


If you believe this is a Bug and requires the attention by Apple >>


Then have a few suggestions ;


1 - Get Support Choose a product and we’ll find you the best solution.Start now and open an Apple Support Ticket as they are Apple Employees to deal will these types of issues . 


2 - Product Feedback - Apple and make it known to Apple regarding this ongoing issue

There has been some type of change between Ventura 13.4.1(c) to Ventura 13.5 that effects the appearance of "Location Services".


That we acknowledge. 


As of this writing, there is no documented and supporting evidence provided by Apple as to whether this is a "bug "  or something else.


There are some who say it is a Bug, there are some who say it is problem in Ventura 13.5, there are some who say a fix is imminent and some say, " Not on these forums " the issue is the Third Party Applications needs to be updated by the Developer to work with Location Services in Ventura 13.5


In the interim - the functionality of Location Services is working as intended when using Safari Version 16.6 (18615.3.12.11.2)


At least that how it has been working on 2 M1 and 1 M2 computers I own and work on each running Ventura 13.5 released July 24, 2023

There is no world where "location services seems to work as intended," if you cannot use them at all.

Not seeing the Application listed in Location Services is one thing.


Seeing the effects of Location Services actually working is another thing


To make a parallel in a non Technical and Different way, if you please.


Can one see the air we breathe and fills our lungs - no


But we see the effects of the air each time when breathe in


There are ways to see the functionality of Locations Services in Ventura 13.5


Below are just 2 of several methods to test the functionality or not functionality of Location Services in Ventura 13.5

Your first example is only showing that the dialog window works, it doesn't tell anything about the actual location services.


You're arguing semantics. It's the same as if I said I have 1 million of your money. It's yours, definitely. You just can't get it, or do anything with it, or benefit it in any way, shape or form. So do you really have the money, is it yours if you can't use it?


I see your point, but it's like saying "hey your left eyelash is still working" to a quadriplegic. It's techinically correct, but it's only mocking the actual problem.


The reality is, we cannot use the location services with any programs not expressly internally allowed by Apple. There is NO way to turn location services on for a particular program. So, in essence, it doesn't work. Twisting words does not help anyone, but is very efficient in alienating customers. "If" it is a bug? Yeah, and how is it not, when the feature doesn't work how it's supposed to work?


Please, no more semantics, no more twisting of words and no more technically correct. The functionality of Location Services to a regular end-user is not working. It doesn't matter WHAT part of the chain has failed, the point is, that we cannot enable location services for apps we want. That's all that matters.

What I find very interesting is that if I reboot my computer (M1 iMac)with Ventura 13.5, then go to location services in System Settings, I see all the applications appear for a half second then disappear again. So it appears that something is reversing them from appearing in the new code in 13.5. I'm leaning towards this being a bug and not a feature or system improvement by Apple.
