How do I know when my apple TV remote is finished charging?

I find nothing in my iPhone 'settings' for remotes or devices.

You can view the remote’s charge state on your AppleTV at:

Settings -> Remotes and Devices -> Remote -> Battery Level

How can I tell my AppleTV remote is charging? How can I tell my AppleTV remote is charging? Ours is new and it seems like it never is charged when we go to use it. However, I read that we shouldn't need to charge it often, so I am wondering if there is way to tell if the remote is charging or fully charged. Thank you.
