Mine didn't start this until I updated to Sonoma... doesn't fix it if I use snap to grid nor does moving it back and turning snap to grid off and back on. I'm afraid to add a space to the "file name" so it would alphabetize as first too for fear it will really mess up things. I'm going to submit a bug report I guess.

I can't believe Apple hasn't fixed this yet. It might not be a serious problem, but it sure is annoying. Not only will my hard drives move around, but I'll even sometimes have them appear on top of each other. This happens with disk images I've left open; if there are two disk images open, when I come back and unlock the screen they will both be on top of each other and on top of the hard drive icon in the top-right corner.

I've tried a bunch of different "fixes", including moving each icon down a few millimetres from the one above it. This has helped for the drives above halfway on the screen, but the ones below that still move. I should note that I don't even have the computer going to sleep; it turns off the screens only and locks the system so that I need to enter my password to unlock it, but it doesn't enter sleep mode.
