How to transfer an old sim to my iPhone?

I have an iPhone Xs . 2 SIM ports. I utilize a SINGLE physical SIM with NO protected passcode. I am with ATT(not sure if that matters). Is it possible for the 2nd unused SIM port on my phone TO BE USED(hacked).

There has been a lot of strange happenings lately. I’ve been an iPhone user since iPhone 3 so I’m not green but I’m not savvy with technical stuff.

This is my first forum question. Last night I had “apparently” sent a text message that I did not write and there is no way it accidentally happened. I had possession of my phone when it was sent. The message was directed as an insult to the recipient whom I love dearly. It was not an accidental voice picked up.

im trying to understand how this can happen. Could it involve CLONING? Or a SIM PORT HACK of some sort?

Only a very few iPhone country- or region-specific models have a second SIM slot. Most recent iPhone models either have SIM and eSIM, and the iPhone 14 and the just-announced iPhoje 15 are eSIM only in in the US.

If someone added their sim to my spare port can they access my phone?

Nope.

Does the second sim have ti be activated through the carrier?

If the iPhone is carrier-locked, yes. If not carrier-locked, no. But swapping a SIM into an iPhone doesn’t “hack” it, and is not how number spoofing or other shenanigans work.

And if you’ve lost physical control of your iPhone and potentially of your passcode, there can be other issues awaiting.

But spoofing the calling number is far easier. It’s how many SMS spammers operate, and how they evade number blocks, for instance.

Loading a SIM or eSIM is not a hack.

Transferring an existing SIM into another device might be trouble however, so you can add a PIN/PUK if desired.

Unrelated to acquiring physical access to the sender’s SIM, calling and sending telephone numbers are unfortunately routinely spoofed / faked / forged.
