Moving to a different family in family sharing

My grandson's iPhone is currently linked to my daughter's former partner's family sharing group. How can we remove his iPhone from that family group and link it to my daughter's own family group?

I don't know how cooperative my daughter's former partner will be in this process as relationships are not good.

What age is your grandson's Apple ID set to?

If under 13, then the Family Organizer must allow the under age Apple Id to be moved to a different Family Group.

If its set to over 13, then he can leave the Family Sharing group from within his own device's settings, and be invited to the new Family Group without involving the partner.
