Why doesn't macmail content display?

I have been opening and closing macmail to view the content in individual emails for two years. This is beyond inconvenient. Apple tech support has been zero help. I have tried countless fixes. Occasionally I will get a window that displays content. My recommendation to others with this problem, never close the working window. Hit the yellow button to hide it and call it back when needed. I realize everyone eventually has to restart, but this workaround is better than anything else I have discovered.

Start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
