I did upgrade 16.7.1 on my iphone 8 and when i try to do the upgrade on my iWatch. model: KKNN3LL/A my phone says "To update your apple watch, you first need to update your iPhone". i have turned off my iphone 3 time as well as my watch and no luck.

Please could you confirm which Apple Watch you are using to attempt the update and the current watchOS version?
It could be that the Apple Watch is attempting to update to watchOS 10 but cannot due to iOS 17 not being supported on the iPhone 8.

In order to install watchOS 10 you will need an iPhone Xs or later to be running iOS17.
