Outlook-Failure to Connect to Server

I have an iPhone 10 with the latest ios update. Starting today, my outlook mail occasionally reports failure to connect to server and less often asks for me to re-enter my password. I have deleted and re-installed the Outlook account, re-booted the phone and re-set my network settings. The issue is there on both wifi and cellular. The same Outlook account on my PC works fine. Any suggestions would be welcome

I'm seeing a LOT of reports of this here recently.

Pretty much all of them are for free accounts. I have a paid MS 365 account and have not had any problems at all.

I've also not had any problems with my corporate 365 account.

I highly recommend you contact Microsoft support regarding this.

So you have 2 factor authentication activated on your account? If you don't, turn that on. That may be part of the issue.

Thanks. No, not using two factor. The above link is for the conversations with Microsoft if you're interested. Mine is only with the Apple mail app on the iPhone. The Outlook app (free), works fine and I'm liking it better.

So both of my response to you were correct right, that it has always been an issue with Microsoft and not Apple.

Contact Microsoft support or look at their help site.

Exactly the same as me. It is somewhere between Apple and Microsoft since the problem does not exist on the Outlook phone app; only the Apple Mail app. I thought it would be resolved by now.

update. i opened up a chat from Outlook->Help->Contact Outlook Mobile Support, and i'm still waiting for someone to answer. This was a complete non-starter for me. Either the functionality is broken or i'm being ignored.

So i opened up a chat from desktop outlook. After chatting with someone for over an hour, they said that it was outside of Microsoft's scope since I'm able to access the account via Outlook Mobile and Outlook.com. And suggested i contact Apple since it is their Mail App.

Now i called Apple with the number that i was given, and it is outside of business hours so i'm out of luck again. sigh...

not sure what my next steps are. this is tiring me out

I was not clear on the problem. I am not using the Outlook app, I am using Outlook through the Apple mail app that comes on the iphone. I have also notice that syncing my iCloud calendar from my phone to my PC is at times slower, less responsive than usual.

And the issue is with Microsoft not being able to connect to it own server, and it is Microsoft that is asking for your Microsoft email password.

I started with reporting to Outlook through my desktop twice. The first rep tried to switch me to a tech rep within the chat and both times it never happened. As you can see from advice above, people believe it is Microsoft, not Apple. However, there is an issue with the interface between Microsoft and the Apple phone app and my guess is that it could be on either side. It's in Apple's best interest to deliver Outlook through their iPhone mail app so they should, along with Microsoft, analyze the problem and report definitively whose glitch it is. You (coastieboy) have the same issue I have, where the Outlook mobile app works fine. And, I'm really liking that app. However, others are reporting slightly different issues? People from different sources are communicating that the numbers here are getting big; hopefully big enough to get some attention and resolution.
