M3 MacBook Air shows as M2 after Sonoma 14.1.1 update

Immediately after restart when updated to Sonoma 14.1.1, 'About This Mac' says my chip is M2 - should be M3. 15-inch M3 MacBook Air 16GB memory. What's happening?

How do I ‘verify that Apple’s database sees it correctly’? I entered my Serial Number at the URL provided but nothing happened - now what? Have since updated to Sonoma 14.1.2 in the hope the issue might be fixed, but the chip still shows in ‘About This Mac’ as M2. Will this affect performance on my MacBook Air? Thanks for any advice.

That's because Sonoma is correct. You have a 15" M2 MacBook Air. There is no such thing as a 15" M3 MacBook Air. The only 15" MacBook Air that Apple ever made is the MacBook Air (15-inch, M2, 2023).

Apple has released a notebook computer with the base 'M3' chip – but that one is a recently-introduced variant of the 14" MacBook Pro.
