iPad ill not air print since Ios17.1.1 update

I have tried all the fixes. Samsung Xpress 2885FW is working fine from other devices. Both printer and IPad are connected to internet. Have rebooted printer, iPad and printer in all sequences. Have reset Network settings. IT IS NOT THE PRINTER IT IS THE IPAD. PLEASE HELP.

You can work around the problem of Samsung printer not offering air print any longer.

step1 download and and install Samsung MobilePrint app to your iPad.

step2 open a document and attempt to print it using airprint.

step3 this will report no air printers found.

step4 now click on the share symbol (box with up arrow)

step5 open the shared apps click on the Samsung mobileprint app.

step6 this will open the mobileprint that will ask if it can use your location and then open the print function and allow printing.

I hope this helps you all to make your Samsung printer function again.

It is possible that your Samsung printer uses an older version of AirPrint now deprecated in the most recent versions of iOS/iPadOS.

Check with Samsung Support resources to see if a firmware update is available for your Printer.

Do you have any security Apps (such as Norton) or VPN installed on your iPad? If so, these may be interfering with your iPad's internal routing table - and may interfere with AirPrint/AirPlay/WiFi Hotspot or other Apple services. If present, it may be necessary to temporarily remove such Apps from your iPad - and then perform a forced-restart of the iPad.

Also check check to see if your iPad is using the new WiFi Private Address feature. This feature is intended to provide additional privacy and security when using “public” (untrusted) WiFi networks.

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Private Address

The Private Address feature is largely unnecessary for your home WiFi network; if enabled, Private Addressing can interfere with anticipated operation of other devices, such as AirPrint/Airplay. In such circumstances, you may need to disable this feature - and can be enabled or disabled for each individual network.

Same issue here- and the same printer.

In my case, I have fully supported 4 ioS devices and only 1 can air print. The 3 that cannot find the printer are all running a version of ioS 17, and the iPhone that still works is running 16.5.1- and you better believe i am not updating that one! Two of the other devices previously worked fine with AIr Print. (The other device is new and had never been tested with air print...)

I have a support ticket in with Apple and am hoping they can isolate the issue(s) and fix them. Clearly it is looking like there is something amiss with ioS 17.

Others have noted the problem with the printers- take a look at the HP forums. Here is one recent example. The work around one user described is not practicable for us as we do not keep a windows desktop on all the time for multiple reasons...

And the Private WiFi article didnt fix my issue either; Use private Wi-Fi addresses on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support

It seems a combination problem in the sense that well Apple has changed something about AirPrint protocol that makes it incompatible with older printers and Samsung/HP has has no driver firmware available since 2020. Also in fact I don't have that latest driver and there is NOWHERE on the interweb to get it from apart from PAID driver sites.

1) Apple has deprecated support for old versions of AirPrint in iOS/iPadOS 17.x. As such, unless your printer supports or can be updated to the current version of AirPrint (by way of a printer firmware update), you may only be able to print using a companion App provided by the printer-manufacturer.

2) As for device drivers, unlike Windows PC and macOS, iOS/iPadOS has no method by which stand-alone device drivers can be installed. The only method by which a device driver can be installed on iPad and iPhone is to install a companion App from the device manufacturer.

So printing becomes somehow more secure by being forced to use some cloud-based printing service and app from the printer manufacturer, instead of just sending data inside the local network?

At no point is any suggestion being made that internet-printing is any way "more secure". My previous post, to which you replied, merely states that an earlier version of the AirPrint protocol has been deprecated (i.e., removed).

The current version of AirPrint is very much supported by iPadOS. Older printers, using the deprecated version of AirPrint may simply be too old to support the more recent version of AirPrint - and may therefore only remain usable with Apple devices using alternative printing methods/protocols.
