Iphone permanent lock after stolen or loss declaration
when iphone is locked to this screen « There id a problem with this iphone. This iphone was reported lost or stolen. If you found it, please go to support.apple.com/found for further instructions » there is litteraly nothing that can be done by anyone…
Context : I got my phone stolen, I do not have Applce car theft and loss, I have locked the phone into Lost mode i reported the phone as stolen and contacted apple. After talking with them I have decided to erase the phone to avoid my bank (both pro and personal) and work information to be used. So I went to Find My and erased the phone, the lost message with my infos sere still displaying on the screen. After months of not knowing where the **** the phone was I resigned and just deleted it from Find My. Almost a week ago now I have received a phone call from someone claiming to have my phone. I was surprised and happy we met, the lady gave me the phone and we left. Back home I was super cause the phone was factory knew so I started configurating the phone. Well, that happiness left me very fast. I had the hello screen then the country and language screens, then the screen asking if I want to configure the phone with another device, i chose no since I do not have an iphone anymore. Then a screen loaded and this black screen showed saying : « There id a problem with this iphone. This iphone was reported lost or stolen. If you found it, please go to support.apple.com/found for further instructions » when going to that webpage I am required to call a japanese or american number however I am in France. i have contacted apple and send the receipt via chat with the box and the phone. They told me they can’t do anything nor take the iphone back at an apple store. I then asked them to send me a return label as mentioned on the website they told me that it was also not possible since the instructions only work for Japan and USA. So I do not know what to do with it, I don’t want to waste energy or false hope with it. I am going to throw it away even if I believe this is a huge waste. I know they can do something about it, they can unlock it and resell it instead of wasting a perfectly good phone.
One good thing is that it shows that their tech and measure to deter thieves are evolving and are being more and more difficult to bypass. However it is also a problem for those who want to buy preloved iphones. There is literally no way you can tell the phone is blocked without trying to go through the configuration process because there is no locked screen nothing, just this screen that pops up after a few steps.
