Mac Studio Bluetooth randomly disconnects from Apple accessories (Magic mouse, trackpad, keyboard)

My Mac Studio randomly disconnects from my Bluetooth magic mouse, keyboard, and Bluetooth trackpad at least once daily, sometimes several times. I often have to plug them back in with a cable to reconnect. All are Apple accessories. Does anyone else have this problem or suggestions on how to fix it?

I have the same issue... I don't believe anything would disturb the devices, as even in a completely secluded mountain hotel, they released my peripherals, like mouse, keyboard, trackpad, 2-3 times a day. Interestingly, it never released the AirPods Pro 2, only the peripherals, even when I only allowed the mouse. There are many similar complaints online. Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution. It's not true that frequency congestion is responsible; I've given it plenty of time to test.

This drives me absolutely nuts and is especially frustrating when playing a computer game such as Minecraft. I'll find my character is frozen while a zombie or other bad guy pummels "me" to oblivion.

So far my saving grace is Handoff and a nearby Mac that lets glide the mouse cursor over to the Mac Studio's screen and take over.

But I found an even better way. I've got an external third-party USB-connected keypad popular with video game streamers. One of the keys I've programmed to be "Reset Bluetooth". When pressed, it does `sudo pkill bluetoothd` and that solves the problem. My Apple-branded mouse, keyboard, and trackpad all reconnect in seconds.

This tells me it's not an interference issue (as oft suggested), but is instead software.

This problem has been recurring constantly, several times daily, for quite some time. At first it was very sporadically, now every few hours. I can walk away from the computer for a short period and the problem disappears or, for some reason, I can lightly press the on/off button on the back of the Studio (enough to blank the screen but not enough to turn off the computer) and this usually fixes the problem when I then again press the button lightly (enough to turn the image back on). I don't know why Apple hasn't addressed this yet but it is truthfully happening often enough to get me to go back to Windows as much as I hate that idea after so many decades being Apple-centric.

This bug is impeding my ability to get work done. Loosing the mouse AND keyboard during a shared-screen presentation makes me look bad to my clients. I don't believe this is interference because nothing in my office changed and it just started happening two days ago.

Oh wow, nice! I didn't even realize there was a run-as-Administrator option.

What I did is create a script ~/bin/reset-bluetooth which has `sudo pkill bluetoothd` in it and then configure sudo to not require a password for that by creating /etc/sudoers.d/reset-bluetooth and putting in the single line:

kelly ALL= NOPASSWD: /Users/kelly/bin/reset-bluetooth

Where kelly is my username.

I like your solution even better!

Why do I have difficulty with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth devices when USB 3 devices are attached to my computer?

Some USB 3 devices can generate radio frequency interference that can cause Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices operating in the 2.4GHz band to have issues communicating with your computer. Here are some tips to avoid this issue:

• If your USB device has a cable long enough that you can move the device, place it away from your Mac—and make sure not to place it behind your Mac, or near the hinge of its display. The antennas for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are located there, and USB 3 devices placed there might interfere with your wireless connections.

• If you're using adapters or dongles on a Mac computer with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, plug them into the front port on the left side of your Mac, or into the ports on the right side (if your computer has them). These ports are the farthest away from the antennas, making interference less likely.

• To avoid interference on the 2.4GHz band using Wi-Fi, try using the 5GHz band instead. You can change this on your wireless base station. Bluetooth always uses 2.4GHz, so this alternative isn't available for Bluetooth.

After several years with a Mac mini (the last Intel model) and now a Mac Studio, I am certain this is a software issue. As there have said, a Bluetooth resent fixes it and the fact it stops and then comes back after a few seconds tells me it's unlikely to be other RF interference as I'd expect it to last longer, happen more often and not be fixed by The IT Crowd solution (turning it off and on again). It's existed as an issue in macOS for years and it happens to people all over the world. And it doesn't seem to impact my other BT devices like speakers connected to my turntable.
