1470 Time Capsule slowing down my Fiber Internet Speed

New Fiber Internet 1000mps but only getting 200-300mps. It is much slower when going through my Apple A1470 Time Capsule. Should I update it or just use it for a back up system? Also, how would I set it up to just be a back up system?

Is the Time Capsule set up as your "main" router, or do you have another router and the Time Capsule is connecting to that "other" router?

There are no updates for the Time Capsule, so not sure what you are asking about in that regard.

If the Time Capsule is set up as your "main" router.....connected directly to the fiber ONT.....top speed is going to be in the 300-325 range.....maybe less.

If you have another Wi-Fi router and you are connecting the Time Capsule to that router, the top speed on your network will be dictated by the Wi-Fi router......not the Time Capsule.

Things can get confusing in situations like this. Are you willing to run some checks and tests that may take an hour or so?

If you have another Wi-Fi router......what is the make and model number of this device?

Hi Bob,

I just got Fiber Internet. The main router is in my basement along with a eero6+ and another eero6+ upstairs plugged into my Mac Mini. I have an external drive for my backup, but thought using my TC as a second one would be a good idea, but I don't want it to be act as wifi do to it slowing down my internet speeds. Would like to know how to program it, turn off, the wifi. Thank you!

OK, so the Eero mesh system is your "main" router and Wi-Fi network.

I am not recommending that you try to turn off the Wi-Fi on the Time Capsule because this may not allow you to connect to the Time Capsule using AirPort Utility to make any changes to the settings on the Time Capsule. It would be better to simply "ignore" 'the Wi-Fi on the Time Capsule and use the Eero network.

We can tell you how to turn off the Wi-Fi on the Time Capsule if you want, but if you find that you cannot access the settings on the Time Capsule using the Eero wireless, the only only option would be to connect an Ethernet cable directly from your Mac (assuming it has an Ethernet port) to the Time Capsule.

If your Mac does not have an Ethernet port, and you find that you cannot access the settings of the Time Capsule using AirPort Utility, then you will have to reset the Time Capsule back to factory default settings and then set it up again.

That's a lot of work, but if you want to try.......the decision is up to you.
