How to trigger(start) recording in garageband(Mac) from external midi controller
I'm using a digital piano midi output and want to instigate a midi recording as soon as I press a key on keyboard - is this possible?
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

If you have an iPhone, iPod or iPod touch and both devices are on a local wifi network you could also try the Logic Remote app. It works for GarageBand too. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/logic-remote/id638394624
Not just when you press a key, no. But you can turn on recording from your keyboard if it allows it, like the IK multimedia I/O keys. It comes with a plugin for Garageband.
You can also get a control surface.
It should also work by pressing "R" on a keyboard, so if you have a bluetooth/wireless keyboard, then that could be an option, but I haven't seen any MIDI keyboards/controllers that can trigger recording on garageband
Thanks iMacarroni, i'll give that a try.
Thanks Kieth, I have an old keyboard which would support this but don't think my new digital piano (Yamaho CLP735) does.
