How can I make my iPod Touch stay on when I turn off the car?

I have just bought a 7th generation ipod touch and when I use it in my car, it switches off every time I switch the ignition off. previous ipods I've had stay on so when I start the car, they start playing automatically. This doesn't happen when I listen at home, ie when it is still playing. This is a real pain as every time I stop the car then start again, the ipod has to be restarted and hooked up to the car again. Any ideas folks

Hi. Thanks for the reply. The problem isn't that it's not charged up. It's always fully charged in the car from the USB lead. The problem is when I switch the ignition off, even for a minute, when I switch on again the connection has gone and I have to set it up again ie switch the ipod back on (if it's switched itself off) and disconnect the lead from the car then reconnect. This never happened with the 5th generation I had before. When I left the car then returned later and switched back on, it just started up automatically. I think it must be in the settings but I can't find anything that could cure it.
