How to download old photos from iCloud?

Old iMac died. New iMac downloaded only newer photos from iCloud. Apple Support couldn’t find older photos. Do I have other options to try to find the precious older photos. Is Apple liable? I pay extra for more space to hold all my photos. Now I’m wondering if it’s wasted money b

It can't be stressed enough that you should always have a second copy if not more of your data stored someplace else and I don't suggest on any clouds that are offered by companies, be it Apple, Microsoft, Dropbox, Box.net, Google, etc, etc. If you have TimeMachine or a third party backup routine, thats great but for you most valuable data I would have another separate back back up for that data, be it documents, photos, etc, etc.
