Additional “Home” for 2.4 GHz devices

I have several devices that can only communicate on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. I run a dual band Mesh router so many times these devices seem to have issues connecting. In fact, to get my new Ecobee thermostat to work, I had to set up a guest network that only operated at 2.4 GHz. Now I’m wondering if I can set up a second Home that works off my guest network and move my 2.4GHz devices over to it. I am assuming that if possible, I would have to switch whatever device I’m working from to that network to operate those devices.

If anyone has any tips or advice on this, I’d appreciate it.

Sorry, but no. You will need to upgrade the devices to support 5 GHz if you want to operate in that range, Ecobee does offer dual band thermostats for that purpose, but they do cost more. With today's routers supporting the latest standards for quite some time now, there is no need to purchase any device that only supports the Wi-Fi: 802.11 b/g/n @ 2.4GHz standard. The 2.4GHz bandwidth is so congested with other devices that maintaining a strong connection is getting much more difficult. The limited channels in that frequency range overlap causing interference when multiple devices are used.
