I don't think this can work but in case I'm wrong it might save me a deal of time in manually installing apps.

No, you can't restore an iPad backup to a Mac. Also, Macs don't use the same apps are iPads. There are different versions written for each operating system.
have two ipads, #9 & #10. both backup daily to icloud. Can I set up a brand newly arrived macbook pro from those backups?
