Why am I not able to access some of my documents on iCloud?

Does anyone know why some documents in I Cloud won't open. They will only open from mail Default. If I send it to my other email they still won't open

Try this: go to iCloud.com and sign in. In the lower left you will see Drive.

Right click (or control-click) on Drive and choose "Open Link in New Tab." In the new tab, selecting "Browse," you should see all your iCloud stuff. Choose the file you want, and choose Download (cloud with down arrow, next to trashcan)

The file will move to your download folder where you can put it where you want. (Also, when you click on your file, 3 dots, for "more," will appear, and you can choose Download there.)

iCloud still seems confusing to me, sometimes...

I mean in mail, same as before

It gives options of where to save the attachment.

Also, when you get the file to the Desktop, check the info window. Select the file and do command-i. You'll get its info window like this:

Go to "Open with:" and choose Numbers, and check "Change All..." so that all the Numbers files will stop opening in Mail. If "Change All..." is grayed out, it means it has already been changed.

Since the files is now in a Finder folder, you can do this thing: Select the file and do command-i. You'll get its info window like this:

If it says Open with:, then you can do the Change All button, again choose Numbers, and all Numbers files will then open in Numbers when you double click them. Does this file still say Open with: Numbers.app ?

Can you give us more information? I'm not sure what you mean by "some documents in I Cloud won't open." Where in iCloud do you see these documents? at iCloud.com? or iCloud Drive (Mobile Documents) on your Finder sidebar? Are they in a folder? Where is the folder? Which documents? What sort of extension do they have, xls, or doc, or what? How do you try to open them? What app do you use? How is this connected with email?

Can you include specific steps you've tried?

Hi Richard. My iMac has been in the Trafford centre for repair so when I got it back I had to download from the I cloud. I'm not very good at this type of things so please bear with me. I had a document on my desktop and now it's in iCloud Drive. When I go to finder and open desktop in iCloud Drive I can open the desktop folder and choose the document, I go to the little circle with the drop down arrow and I can choose to open it in numbers or open with Mail (Default) Opening it with numbers is fine but I really need it on my desktop. If I choose Mail then it just opens up in mail as an attachment to send to whoever I want. When I then sent it to myself the attachment won't open but ends up as a mail again. Hope this is ok.

Morning Richard. I have renamed it and the only place I could save it to was Numbers I Cloud. when I tried to open it in numbers on the desktop it did exactly the same and opened up email. Think I may have to call in at the shop next time I'm in The Trafford Centre and ask them what is wrong. The strange thing is, if I open a new Document in numbers and try to save it to my desktop whatever the name it still opens up mail. it's so Bizarre. Thank you so much for trying to help solve this problem.

Why am I not able to access some of my documents on iCloud?
