iCloud issues on iMac
I have an iMac Retina 5K 2019, with Mac OS Sonoma 14.5. My iCloud Drive has stopped refreshing. The indicator wheel next to iCloud Drive says it's downloading 1 item, and has downloaded zero kb of 9.9MB, and has uploaded 0kb of 7 bytes, but it doesn't progress. Internet access is normal.
When I go to System Settings and click on my name, Apple ID, there is zero response, so I can't check on the status of my Apple ID. Note that I'm accessing iCloud Drive on my iPad, MacBook Air and iPhone 15 without any issues, so there's something happening with the iMac.
I have also had issues with the iMac opening some software e.g. I tried to open a Reunion (genealogy software) file a number of times. The icon for Reunion would appear in the Dock, but the application itself would not open. Again, I'm using that software on various other devices without any problem.
Any suggestions of what to do to avoid carting the iMac into an Apple Store?
