iPod touch (4th generation) “iPod is disabled, connect to iTunes”

Hi! I’m looking to get my old ipod working just to look at some old apps on it.

When I got it charged it wouldn’t let me do anything on it like go to the home screen. The only thing it shows is my background and it says “iPod is disabled, connect to iTunes”. It says iPod in the top left and the battery in the top right and allows me to restart it (by holding the home and power button) and take screenshots, but it won’t let me go into the actual phone.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to ‘connect to iTunes’ or if it’s unusable. I’ve seen another post saying that the iPod isn’t able to work anymore because it’s too old and the updates don’t work, but I’m hoping really hard that’s not the case.

Thanks for any and all help!
