Folders synced with icloud are loading files from icloud instead of locally!

This started happening today out of nowhere and it's driving me nuts. When I open folders that are synced with iCloud, it looks like the files are first being picked up from the cloud instead of the actual files stored locally in the computer.

This means that when I open a folder with photos for example, I have to wait 3 or more seconds for every photo to load when seeing them in gallery mode in finder, instead of instantly.

The only way to avoid this is to disconnect my mac from the internet. When I do that, the files load in the blink of an eye as they should.

Can anybody tell me how to fix this? It happens with every local folder that is synced with iCloud.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if I made myself clear. I know what icloud does and this was not happening until yesterday. I'm a photographer, I can't have a lag of several seconds when reviewing photos that are stored locally, just because for some reason the are downloaded from the cloud instead of the folder where they are. The problem goes away when I go offline.

So I'm not sure what you are suggesting here that applies to what I described

nico4d--I think you made yourself perfectly clear, and when I played around yesterday, files in iCloud Drive on my Mac behaved exactly the way that you (and I) think they should. Clicking on a file in iCloud Drive immediately opens for me. Clearly your files are stored locally, but somehow iCloud doesn't feel the vibe. I didn't respond yesterday, because, well, I'm flummoxed.

All I can think of is to try messing around with it to see what changes. First, I think that I'd copy that folder to another place on your Mac, or even to an external drive, before something goes wrong with the files! Then I think I might delete a file or two from iCloud Drive, and see what happens when you copy those back. I'm not sure how long you should wait for the deleting to transfer to iCloud and back-- I've had deleted files pop back up in iCloud as it corrects my "mistake." It's the sort of thing that doesn't happen in ordinary use. If you do this only with a couple of files, then you can see if it made a difference.

It may work if you delete the folder and re-up the whole folder. Still, I'd give it some time to stabilize...
