MetricMasters (followerse-apps), Metric Gurus, Mystic Insight, Instagram Analyser is a scam!!!

Dear Apple Support

I recently responded to a sponsored ad to try out an app (that's not actually an app) to help you gain more insight into your Instagram account. Just by interacting, it seemed take your debit details when clicking to download.

They have taken nearly £50 ($63) from my bank account with no way to stop it. I've sent countless emails to support@followersreport.com promising to close my account, but I still was charged today.

The invoice looks like an Apple invoice but it's not!

Also they seem to use so many different names.

The website or "app" MetricMaster,

In your bank account the charge appears as "MysticInsight Online" or "MysticInsight".

And the emails arrive

support@followerse-apps and

support@followersreport.com

I "cancelled my subscription using the the link sent and received a confirmation email on the 24th July that my account was cancelled and they would refund me.

Neither of those things has happened. In fact, they charged my card again this morning (-£2.75) seen above.

Apple Support, I'm wondering what else can be done?

Thanks

Sorry, but the official Apple Support can not be reached by posting here, this is a user to user community.

You should contact the Apple Support directly by choosing the phone number for your region from this Apple Support page:

If you did not subscribe through Apple, and the developer does not respond, contact your banking institution to cancel the withdrawal allowance.

I too can’t unsubscribe on the website.. I can’t even find the app on the App Store . What is the app called … I’ve emailed them to unsubscribe. On the website the cancel tab is blocked and it says “fetching plan” . Please advise ….

Whether there is an app in the App Store or not is irrelevant. Any subscription/free trial made on a website is not managed by Apple and they have no part in it. If you are unable to contact the developer to unsubscribe, you will need to follow up with the issuing bank of the card being charged to dispute it.

Try this email. I don’t have the app any longer and remember that there’s no clear way to cancel within. Tell them that when you email. Most apps require you to email before they will cancel you as a way to make it more difficult for the customer. Just keep emailing. Also call your bank and get them to stop payment.

Joan, I’m so angry that these people did this!! When dealing with these kinds of scams, note that dark patterns (situations in which there’s a way to unsubscribe but it’s deliberately unclear or hidden) are illegal in the US; your profile says you’re in London, but if the company provides service to US customers it’s illegal for them to use dark patterns, so I wonder if there are any cases in which confidently pointing out to scammers that you are aware they are doing something illegal may be effective. These people get away with it when good people give them a chance and then blame themselves or make excuses for them. I found this thread after I couldn’t find the option to unsubscribe anywhere.
