iPod Classic 4th Gen plugged in but shows no signs of life

I bought an iPod that - when plugged in - shows nothing on the screen, no whirring noises are made and seems like it has no way of turning on at all. I have left it to charge for a few hours and still nothing; I have tried to clean out the port, used different outlets, different chargers, different cables, tried to plug it in my computer, nothing seems to work.

I definitely need some help with this because that just seems abnormal.

It might need a new battery but even with a battery that is flat, it should still have something showing up on the screen.
