Turn off Desktop & Documents then drag back to computer

i want to turn off desktop & documents and drag everything back to the computer. What happens to files that are still waiting to be loaded and those that are only partially loaded. Will I lose this data? Where do these files now reside? I have optimization turned off.

Mac Pro, macOS 13.4
