Mac Mini - Books wont synch to icloud

I have tried everything I can find on the net. Logging out and back in, deauthorizing and reauthorizing, turning Book synch on and off. I'm paying a lot of money for iCloud storage, but I cannot get books to synch to iCloud. Someone help! I am using a mac mini 3 GHz 6 core Intel Core i5. It has 16 GB 2667 MHZ DDR4 memory. The hard drive is only 256GB and I'm out of room. I have more than 100 GB of that in audiobooks, so offloading them to iCloud would free up much needed space. Someone please tell me step by step how to get my books to synch onto iCloud so that I can remove them from my man mini!

Offloading to iCloud is not the way iCloud works. iCloud is used to synchronize files among devices, so you can see them on other computers or on your iPhone or iPad. But the files remain on your Mac. They are copied to iCloud, not moved.

If in System Settings>Apple ID>iCloud you choose "Optimize Storage," then some older or less used files may be erased from the Mac until you need them, but it's hard to count on that for much help, here.

Really, your best bet is to use an external hard drive. 256 GB just doesn't go very far these days. For example, I can see mechanical HDD 1 TB drives on Amazon for as little as $40, most less than $60. Fast SSDs are about $70 per TB.

iCloud is great for what it's intended to do, but it's not an external hard drive. I use both for what they work for.
