Icloud Advanced Data Protection Bug Prevents Log In To Icloud Via Windows App Or Via Any Browser (Using Iphone Or Windows) - Please Fix!

When I turned on advanced data protection, the windows app suddenly signed me out and refused to let me sign back in stating ‘Verification Failed:

To access your end-to-end encrypted data including passwords and other features, sign in to an Apple device to receive a verification code’.

Also unable to access any end-to-end encrypted data via iCloud (e.g. photos, despite allowing access and following steps).

Once advanced data protection is turned off, I’m able to log in fine and access normally encrypted data fine - however end-to-end encrypted data still unusable, as the same error appears: ‘Verification Failed:

To access your end-to-end encrypted data including passwords and other features, sign in to an Apple device to receive a verification code’

Clearly a bug with apple software (their software is unable to access end-to-end encrypted data) - please fix!!

I have exactly the same issue, and I’m a very advanced and experienced IT person and can't fix it.

This must be a massive problem that Apple and Microsoft are 100% aware of. It feels as though it is in the “too hard to fix” category, so the approach is “let’s double down on pretending it doesn’t exist.” When people call support we’ll take them through the simpleton steps that don’t work but make the user feel they are listening. That is secondary (failure) demand creation at mass scale.

I'm also using Advanced Data Protection and had the same issue with the iCloud app for Windows 11.

Resetting the iCloud app for Windows (Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > iCloud > Advanced Options > Reset), solved the issue for me. I had to create another storage folder for the iCloud data, since there was already a folder on my system. Hope is will solve your issue too.
