How to teach my 10 and 3 -year-old computer skills from scratch with Mac or other Apple prducts? Thanks!

Hi,everyone! This is Eric from China Mainland and iphone 14 is my single Apple product for now and I am thinking about buying a Mac to help my two young kids with their computer skills and beyond. My concerns are as follows: 1. their addiction to Mac, such as, watching short vedios which are their faviourite occasionally using my phone and his own phone; 2. how to teach them learn to make vedios and so on? self-taught or attending a seminar? or what else? 3. unknown

I appreciate your kind and honest response. if you like. Can't thank you enough. By the way, I work here as an English teacher in a senior high school. God bless you all!

Regards

Eric

Most of us probably learned what we know about Macs by playing with them. So, if you get a Mac, set up accounts for your kids with the proper limitations and let them explore. Look for age appropriate games. They will teach the kids how to use the keyboard and the mouse/trackpad.

Apple has a lot of coding tools for kids:

Your older child can probably take videos and then explore iMovie on a Mac or iPhone. They may need some help but it would certainly be a fun project for you to work on together.

You should also explore the App Store for apps aimed specifically at children who want to learn to make videos. As I don't have any access to the Chinese App Stores, I'm not going to make any specific recommendations (and the link above may not be helpful, apologies).

It has been my observation when teaching people how to use technology (I also taught English to adults in China remotely) that the advantage kids have over adults is that kids know they don't know anything and are willing to explore. Adults are more afraid of looking stupid. So, let the kids play and explore. If they have questions you can't answer, look them up together.

Best of luck!

Oh my God! You are so sweet ,Mr or Ms Seabright! So sweet to meet you here and above all, you are so generous to share what you know with me ,a complete stranger. What you wrote really matters a lot to me and my kids. This is teh first time I have been here and this morning something occurred to me and I came up with this idea and let me try App website. You see, I have got two valuable replies from friends online here , so far. To be honest, I will have to read your message again when I get my Mac. It is so subtle to hear from a teacher who shares the same occupation in USA. Actually, I encoutered many foreigners during this summer holiday, from California, Italy, Paris Bulgium, Mexico, Iraq,Germany, Ucraine, Latvia, London, Russia, Spain, Poland. I live in a place where Shaolin Temple is located and around 500 disciples from different countries stay in my city to learn kungfu. And I came across a lady from Germany who learn kunfu here and she also works as s psychologist in Germany and I taught here Chinese for a week before my term started free of charge. I enjoy that. Have you ever heard of kunfu or martial arts? Do you like it? I have met a guy from London and we talked a lot and we ate together. He told me it was a banquet which is a new word for me. You see, it is exciting to meet new people and things and keep my mind open. I literally appreciate your expressions which inspire me a lot to write, the last paragraph in particular. Looking forward to hearning from you soon. You really mean a lot to me. Thank you so much!

Regards

Eric

I have a brown belt in Aikido, a Japanese martial art. Though I haven't practice much in far too long.
