How to download all files from iCloud Drive?

I turned off iCloud Drive yesterday.

It is possible that in my ignorance I interrupted the process of it creating archive in my "Home" folder. Today I see that what is there is not complete. Stuff is missing.

I ask if anyone knows how to download all files from iCloud Drive - one time without having to turn it on again.

I click on Documents folder or Desktop and that icon stays grey.

I only use Safari, I cannot see how any other browser will work better for Apple?

This has been an unmitigated nightmare.

Any one reading really make sure you know what you are doing before you ever go near iCloud Drive or iCloud "storage".

Why does Apple make that option unavailable? I cannot see Apple benefit of offering and charging for a service that they then make unavailable?

You need to select files to download, not folders. If you turned off desktop and documents, those folder move to icloud only. You can drag/drop the contents from the iCloud Drive folder on your Mac to wherever you wish to store the files. Or, you can download the individual files.

Again, it's easiest to ensure that you have iCloud Drive turned on. Drag and drop the Desktop and Documents contents to the location that you wish.

Not sure what you mean by unavailable or what you've experienced that is a nightmare.

There are thousands of files in these folders, it will not be feasible to download them one by one.

In any case my iCloud does not give option to view individual files, only the main folder.

Unavailable - what I mean is Apple offer to store files and then not allow them to be retrieved?

The nightmare - is the 4 or 5 days so far trying to undo my error of ever starting with Drive.

Again, enable iCloud Drive. (don't enable. desktop and. documents). You can then drag/drop the entire contents if each file to the desktop and the documents locations. Otherwise, you need to navigate into the folder at iCloud.com and download every file individually, that's not practical.

You can then also remove any other files in iCloud Drive to a location that does not sync and never use it again if you wish.

I guess by enable you mean slid to right to "Sync this Mac" cursor.

I have not slid over the documents and desktop

Hope its gonna work now.

I must thank you for your help, and hugely for your patience. I am afraid Apple today is not the loveable thing it was in 90's. Steve Jobs really understood how to do it. Apple today feels like Microsoft did in 90's.

Life goes on I guess. Except regrettably not for Steve Jobs.

Thank you.
