Screen saver tvOS 18 timing gone

The Apple TV screen saver menu used to provide settings for the amount of time a slide show from home share stayed on screen (2,5, 10 seconds etc). These options are no longer available in TVOS18 and images are flying by. PLEASE add this functionality back!!

+1 for this. Give us back the slideshow timing control. The new default is much too fast. Please Apple, please….

The TV OS 18 has taken away the ability to set the duration for slides to show in screensaver - why??? This was available for years and now dropped? The default timing is much too short to be useful. Screensaver needs a major revamp to fix the timing issue and to permit users to control the play sequence of slides - not just the current random sequence.

Apple is putting too much emphasis on showing off its own slideshows and aerial videos - which many of us never use.

My thoughts too. When Apple has release updates over the last couple of years they always seem to muck it up somehow. I have been getting frustrated watching images with great detail change before you can look at it. I also discovered today that audio going to my HomePods in other rooms keeps dropping out since the update. Sounds like the testing is too narrow.

Apple making a worse user experience when they decided to update to TVOS18. Slide duration is a clear case in point. My other beef is that you could never have the screen saver appear any less than after 2 mins which in my opinion is way too long. An OLED tv is much more sensitive to screen burn so requires that a static picture is refreshed more frequently than 2 mins.

The most problems I’ve ever had with any Apple product is updating the OS systems. Options, changed, or disappear. It appears that Apple TV is no exception. this time the screen saver duration option disappeared And the default time is way too fast. This is the reason why I don’t do automatic updates and avoid updating if the system appears to be working properly. I think the programmers need to be a little more careful and check their work Before releasing the product.

Options changed, or disappear. It appears that Apple TV is no exception.

Change is the only way to bring progress and improvement. No change means becoming outdated and irrelevant for customers that compare, thus loss of sales.

this time the screen saver duration option disappeared And the default time is way too fast.

You can still do non-screen saver slideshows, with adjustable timing, from the Photos app or Computers app.

This is the reason why I don’t do automatic updates and avoid updating if the system appears to be working properly.

That is your prerogative, but you’re also missing out on important fixes and features that way.

And if Apple is lucky, then some ‘essential’ third party app requires the latest update to run (e.g. Netflix/tvOS 17 last year).

I think the programmers need to be a little more careful and check their work Before releasing the product.

There are alphas, betas, release candidates, and final updates. In all stages Apple invites users of these releases to give feedback, aside from their internal QA team. Either these users didn’t care and didn’t report or Apple decided against (re-)implementing features at this time. There is nothing accidental or unintended about it. Let Apple know what you would like to see in tvOS, though. Feedback - Apple TV - Apple.
