iPhone battery draining after iOS 18 Update

Wrote in via Apple Feedback, bug report and linked this thread.

I don't have time to call in, hang around with support, who would then advise to wipe my phone and start fresh. I used to do fresh installs on the computer and iPad in the past; but these days; there's just way too much information, apps, login credentials and what not on a mobile phone. It would take weeks to start from scratch.

Anyway. Sent the link to here, so they will hopefully read up ... and not make further claims when somebody calls in that they've never heard about this issue.

me also having the same issues... after iOS 18 updated... chat with Apple Support and giving me all the instruction that already did and lastly as to do the factory reset... so wasting time... its not about phone setting... ITS ABOUT iOS 18 UPDATES!!!

I run both Pixel and iPhones and so far Google is making an attempt at improving battery life in their software but have other bugs or issues... Apple is too complacent and Apple sycophants are the problem

i also have the 15 Pro, and not only did my battery drain ultra fast today (updated last night), but now it’s taking forever to charge! I plugged in 2 1/2 hours ago, at 5%. I’m still plugged in and only at 19%? Come one Apple! What gives?

Post ios 18 my phone battery degraded from 100% to 96% on iPhone 15

pro and my other phone iPhone 15 to 98% and count cycle is just 118 in iPhone 15 and 230 in 15 pro. Not sure others too have seen this

after updating to iOS 18 aswell my iPhone 13 battery has drained so quickly I might need a new battery because last night my phone was at 40% and this morning I woke up to it being at 8% and 2 minutes later it went down to 6%. Does anyone have any tips to prevent it doing this

Anyone else see that the main culprit is Photos background usage. Mine is hitting 75% in the background. I upgraded when it first came out so it’s been a month now. Only thing that helps is turning the phone off when I feel it getting warm.

I’ve still got the “Update finishing in background’ notification in the battery settings. It’s been a few days since the update to 18.1 - anyone else? Or any timelines that differ for how long it’s taken for that message to disappear? Thanks.

And I switched off auto sw update, and I switched off auto sw download, and I manually deleted the downloaded sw setup file of ver 18.1 for a couple of times, but in vain. The update notification to update to 18.1 either now or this night is always there.

Same thing here—I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and after updating to iOS 18, my battery is draining so fast. I used to charge once a day, but now it’s three times a day. Is it always going to be like this?

Same here… I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Before ios18 my battery was really great, I use my phone for work most of the time so it just stay on the table for calls. Before I was having still around 70-80% battery at the end of the day.

now with iOS 18 without doing anything during the day, I have 25% at the end of the day…

what the **** is going on ???

Hello~ Not I…my battery is holding up fine and I am using an iPhone 12 mini that is right at needing a battery replacement. Also…you will not “hear” anything from Apple here on this as it’s a forum of fellow users like yourself. What iOS version are you currently running?

During read of all this comments I found one thing that I didn’t do after update. And it looks like that helps and battery drain is gone now, at least for phone.

Background: I’m using shortcut to turn off charging at 90%. Probably charge to 100 is needed after update to calibrate battery.

my solution: Charge battery to 100% and keep it that way on charger for 1h.

before: phone charger before night, till the morning 30% battery drop.

now: after night 3-6% battery drop.

I have 15 prm before update my battery’s health was 98% but after it dropped to 88% I’m so mad it keeps dropping for no reason like when I don’t even touch my phone I have to turn on power saving mode constantly updated to 18.1 still no help

I've read the attempts of others (nothing helps). It seems that in my case, the battery drain is most likely caused by the modem.

I put the phone in airplane mode, and the draining stopped. So, basically, I have a phone that I can't make calls with, and if I want to make calls and use it, I constantly have to recharge it.
