I saw a YouTube video that claimed that a hub does not have enough power to run multiple external drives without adding additional power. He claimed it would blow up the ports on the Mac mini.
The recommendation was to get a higher powered charger, 45 W or above. When I contacted Quiizlab about that, all they would say was that they had tested up to 20 W.
Does anyone else have any more information on this?

Blathering nonsense. Powered hubs are designed to output standard voltage and current for USB connectivity. Adding a larger capacity power supply changes nothing.
YouTube is what it is and anyone can post anything they want, even if it is bad information and bad advice.

No, you want to avoid Hubs that do not have AC power. The pic looks good as long as the AC power is plugged i & it good.
You can check... System ReportHarware?USB for the mA used & required...
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago and it seems to work fine.
It is powered by a 5v 4amp power source . . . basically like a phone charger.
4 amps appears to be the normal maximum for these devices.
The Quiizlab UH25 Max Dual Drive Docking Station has a 5V input port to add power from an external power supply.

They'd have been correct speaking of Bus powered Hubs, Hubs with their own ACpower avoid that."_
Do, the Quiizlab show above is what I have. Posted by the mini and external outlet. Is that what you are describing when you say "Avoid?"
