The "when I get home" automation does not shuffle songs from the Apple Music playlist and play a song that is not in the playlist.

I have an automation that plays music from an Apple Music playlist when I get home. I set the Home app to play songs randomly. But only the first song plays every time. I tried resetting the automation, but that didn’t fix the problem. I also reset the HomePod Mini, but that didn’t help either.

I deleted that song from the playlist to stop getting annoyed by hearing the same song over and over again when I get home. But to my surprise, the same song still plays even though it’s not in the playlist. How is that possible?

Automations that are supposed to make coming home more enjoyable are annoying and completely useless. This is so irritating.

The latest HomePod Mini software, iPhone 13, and the latest iOS.

HomeKit can be tricky to navigate yes. It’s in my location services twice as well, now that I looked. After updating all software the other day, I kept getting asked to share home. I suppose I might need it for some Apps. I can’t see this affecting Apple Music for you though. I do notice with HomePods that deleting songs from a playlist keep playing. The HomePod seems to save the play history. It can take weeks to be rid of a song. Best thing to do is recreate the entire playlist without the undesired songs. Or maybe there’s some other setting that does this.

In any case, you should also be using share my location in Find My: in Settings > [your name] > Find My - enable Share My Location and be sure My Location is set to this Device (iPhone and an Apple Watch if you have one). Like this:

Yes, I deleted it and made a new one. It seems to be working for now, but I'll see how it behaves in a few days. Anyway, yesterday I called Apple support and we talked about it and checked the settings for probably an hour. It is difficult to say what causes this behavior. It's possible that something is conflicting with each other from different devices. The playlist can be edited from iPhone or Mac, and there is another external person who can also edit the playlist. While looking through the settings on my iPhone, he noticed that the Home app appeared twice in Location Services. This was very surprising for him. He told me that he had never encountered anything like this and that there might be a problem there as well. But he didn't know what to do with it and why it happened twice. So I don't really know what's going on. He described the entire problem, took screenshots and said he would forward the problem.

Overall, he wasn't very surprised that I was calling with an unusual problem. He said HomeKit is very individual and has a lot of problems.
